Chapter 2128 Threaten me?
Chapter 2128 Threaten me?
Wu Kun ran his fingertips along the rim of the celadon teacup, where fine water droplets still clung to the edge.
Across from him, Huo Changhe was casually fiddling with the tea and snacks on the table.
"The horses at the horse farm looked nice just now, are you selling them?"
Wu Kun thought to himself that a quarter of an hour had passed since he drank the medicinal tea.
He remained expressionless and continued, "Young master, you flatter me. Ta Xue is indeed the prized horse of the ranch. It has a fierce temperament and is not easily controlled by ordinary people. If you are interested, I will have someone bring it out for you to see another day."
"Oh?" Huo Changhe became interested and leaned forward slightly. "It's good that they have a fiery temper; it's more interesting to tame them."
He took another sip of tea, his speech gradually slowed down, his gaze became somewhat unfocused, and a thin mist clouded over his once clear eyes.
Wu Kun pretended not to see and continued, "Young master is joking. Taming a wild horse is no easy task; it requires a great deal of patience and skill. A few days ago, a bodyguard tried to tame one, but he was knocked to the ground by Ta Xue and broke his leg."
As he spoke, he silently counted in his mind, one, two, three...
As soon as he finished speaking, Huo Changhe nodded slightly, as if he were dozing off. The teacup in his hand clattered onto the table, spilling tea that wet the hem of his brocade robe.
His body went limp, and he slumped into the chair, his breathing becoming long and steady, clearly indicating that the drug had taken effect.
Wu Kun finally breathed a sigh of relief, and his tense shoulders relaxed slightly.
He raised his hand and touched his chest, where a secret letter was hidden, wrapped in layers of oiled paper, close to his skin, still warm from his body.
"Someone come here," Wu Kun called out in a low voice.
Two men dressed in short jackets and with long swords at their waists immediately emerged from behind a nearby tree, bowing and awaiting orders.
"Tie him up and take him to the west wing. Keep a close watch on him." Wu Kun's voice was very low. "Don't mistreat him, don't let him escape, and don't let anyone near him, understand?"
"Yes." The two responded in unison, quickly took out the hemp rope they had prepared beforehand, carefully tied Huo Changhe up tightly, blindfolded him with a black cloth, and then carried him from the front and back, walking briskly towards the west wing. Their figures quickly disappeared at the end of the corridor.
Wu Kun watched them walk away, then touched the secret letter on his chest again, his expression becoming complicated.
The secret letter clearly instructed him to take the most valuable items from the horse farm and immediately go to the agreed location—a pre-arranged final contact point that could only be used in case his life was in danger.
He did all sorts of deadly things at the horse farm. Over the years, he had seen too many cases of people being discarded after their usefulness was over, and he had long been wary of such behavior.
The order from his superiors seemed to offer him a way out, but who knew that once he arrived at the liaison office, he would be met with either assistance or silenced?
So he kept a backup plan.
The secret letter also specifically instructed him to drug Huo Changhe and Yan Ruyu, and bring them along, saying that these two had special identities and were important bargaining chips.
But Wu Kun did not do as instructed.
Huo Changhe possessed a powerful aura, and his every move carried a subtle sense of pressure, clearly indicating that he was no ordinary person.
Wu Kun knew in his heart that neither of these two people were simple.
Leaving Huo Changhe at the horse farm serves as leverage to restrain superiors and also provides an escape route for oneself.
While pondering, Wu Kun stood up, straightened his blue cloth robe, and strode towards the gate of the horse farm.
He needs to get there as soon as possible and discuss the follow-up with his superiors.
A black carriage with a canopy was parked outside the gate of the horse farm. The black curtains were drawn low, obscuring the view inside. His men were standing beside the carriage, their backs to him.
"Is everything ready?" Wu Kun asked casually, walking straight toward the carriage without stopping.
The subordinate didn't turn around, only giving a vague reply. Wu Kun didn't think much of it, reached out and lifted the carriage curtain to get in.
He had just gotten into the car when a cold, sharp knife was pressed against his chest.
The knife tip was incredibly sharp; even through the thin fabric, he could clearly feel its bone-chilling coldness and a faint, almost imperceptible, smell of blood.
Wu Kun froze instantly, barely daring to breathe. His heart skipped a beat. How could there be someone here? Could it be someone sent by his superiors?
He slowly raised his head and looked in the direction of the knife tip. He saw the carriage curtain being lifted by a slender, fair hand, revealing a delicate and beautiful face.
She was indeed as beautiful as jade.
Her eyes held a hint of cunning and coldness as she looked at him with a half-smile.
"Manager Wu, where are you rushing off to?" Yan Ruyu's voice was melodious as she pushed the knife tip closer to his chest. "Don't move, this knife doesn't have eyes."
Wu Kun forced down his shock and panic, trying to make his voice sound calm: "How did you get here?"
As he spoke, he discreetly glanced around.
There was no one else there, and he felt a slight sense of relief.
"Why can't I be here?" Yan Ruyu raised an eyebrow, her smile tinged with sarcasm. "But Manager Wu, the guests are still inside having tea, and you're going out alone. Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"
"I have some urgent business to attend to and must go out for a bit." Wu Kun composed himself and said, "I've already instructed my men to treat you two to good food and wine. You should go back to the horse farm first."
"Really?" Yan Ruyu tilted her head, her eyes full of disbelief. "Then what kind of fine wine has Steward Wu prepared?"
"The wine is a fine brew, aged for over ten years, mellow and fragrant," Wu Kun tried his best to sound sincere, but in his mind he was rapidly calculating a way to escape.
This is his territory. If he can delay for a moment and let his men inside notice the commotion, he can subdue Yan Ruyu.
But Yan Ruyu clearly didn't give him that chance. With a flick of her wrist, the sharp knife moved to the side of his neck, and the icy touch made him shiver involuntarily.
"Was the wine laced with a sleeping potion?" Her voice was light and airy, yet it struck Wu Kun's heart like a stone.
Wu Kun's expression changed slightly, his throat moved, and he couldn't speak for a moment.
He hadn't expected that Yan Ruyu knew about the sleeping potion. Had she already noticed?
Seeing his appearance, Yan Ruyu chuckled softly, her voice clear and melodious like a silver bell: "It seems that Steward Wu is indeed dishonest."
Having his thoughts exposed and with a knife to his throat, Wu Kun also became furious.
He took a deep breath, suppressing his fear, and said in a deep voice, "This is my territory, and everyone on the horse farm obeys my orders."
You'd better not be so arrogant. Get out of the car obediently, put down the knife, and everything can be discussed. Otherwise…
"Otherwise what?" Yan Ruyu interrupted him, her smile even more sarcastic. "I haven't heard threats from others in a long time, but I've heard them several times since I came to this horse farm. Manager Wu, tell me again, what else will happen?"
