Chapter 1601 - 1600: Kindred Spirits
"Stop! Do you really think you're the boss of the entire peach blossom realm? Have you looked at yourself?"No one expected that the person standing up for Divine Doctor Wen would be one of the patients waiting for the Divine Doctor to save their life.
"Who gave you the right to think you can kick people out as you please? Look at you, your wife has suffered so much. You clearly have enough money, yet to save a little, you nearly cost your wife's life, and then you shamelessly forced Divine Doctor Wen to pay for your medical bills when she didn't have any money."
Bei Lin pointed at the man's nose and scolded him. Before he could react, another man was also being scolded by Bei Lin: "And you, do you think everything's solved just because you've scolded that couple? Before Divine Doctor Wen showed up, you were plotting, saying she had a house, and that if she ran out of herbs she could sell it to help you? How thick-skinned do you have to be to make such a request?"
A few words were not enough, and in the blink of an eye, the frail Divine Doctor Wen collapsed.
Thankfully, as she fell, Bei Lin noticed and ran over, knocking over the man demanding treatment for his wife, to catch Divine Doctor Wen.
"Looks like your hopes are dashed; she has no way to heal you all. You might as well leave now."
Bei Lin, who was already a bit soft-hearted, felt terrible seeing the vulnerable Divine Doctor Wen being watched so predatorily by others.
"Looks like we need a different doctor. Calling her a Divine Doctor when she can't even take care of herself, I think that title might be rather exaggerated."
As people left, even before going, they didn't forget to mock Divine Doctor Wen a few times. Fortunately, Bei Lin was holding Divine Doctor Wen; otherwise, she'd have wanted to pin those people to the ground and beat a conscience into them.
Those who had been waiting days by the door showed no sympathy, not even a word of concern, saying a bunch of useless words as they left. Ultimately, only Bei Lin stayed to take care of her.
In the Divine Realm, there were no vulnerable women, and Bei Lin supported Divine Doctor Wen as they walked towards her room.
The door to Divine Doctor Wen's humble abode was finally closed by Bei Lin, bringing some peace outside.
Divine Doctor Wen's pulse was a bit weak, but a check elsewhere showed everything else was normal. Besides taking a pulse, Bei Lin wasn't skilled at treating patients.
"Wake up, should I give you some water? How about Elixir Pills?"
Bei Lin held some Elixir Pills, ones for health, for recovery, for beauty, all of those, but Divine Doctor Wen had no visible injuries, nor seemed lacking anything, so giving her the Elixir Pills might be redundant.
"Water."
Divine Doctor Wen's lips moved, and she gradually was able to speak. Her first word was clearly heard by Bei Lin.
She poured Divine Doctor Wen a bowl of water, and after drinking, that dry thirst in her throat finally subsided.
Divine Doctor Wen slowly opened her eyes, realizing she was lying on her own bed now, and standing beside it was a stranger.
"Who are you, and why are you here?"
At the time Divine Doctor Wen lost consciousness, her mind had already become hazy. Seeing a stranger here, she didn't connect those outside with the person now before her.
After all, those outside were all evildoers, while Bei Lin looked kind and surely was not colluding with those outside.
"I'm someone who heard there's a Divine Doctor here and came for treatment." Bei Lin explained to Divine Doctor Wen, "But rest assured, I only stayed to take care of you out of pity for your plight and have no other demands from you."
Divine Doctor Wen had already been hurt severely. Being manipulated further, she might lose even the basic trust in people in the future.
"I'm Wen Jinjin, not really a Divine Doctor, just a bit overpraised."
Wen Jinjin introduced herself, as she never truly liked being called Divine Doctor Wen. During her time in the peach blossom realm, she finally understood that the greater one's ability, the greater the responsibility. The more you can do, the higher the expectations placed upon you.
For some, that expectation is good, but for others, it's possibly a heavy burden.
"I'm Bei Lin, not from the peach blossom realm."
Wen Jinjin met Bei Lin. Although they'd just met, as their gazes locked, it felt as if they'd known each other for a long time.
"You're not from the peach blossom realm?"
For some reason, when Wen Jinjin heard that Bei Lin wasn't from the peach blossom realm, her eyes lit up, and her attitude towards Bei Lin improved a bit.
"I'm not from here either, but I've lived here so long, I almost forgot my real hometown."
Saying this, Wen Jinjin smiled, showing dimples filled with sunlight.
"Tell me how to treat your illness, and I'll go buy the medicine."
Bei Lin thought about the peach blossom realm, where she had no acquaintances. Meeting Wen Jinjin felt like fate, so she decided to help her heal before figuring out how to cure her own condition.
"It's nothing, my illness is insignificant. Once I feel a bit better, I'll brew some medicine myself. But you, you're a young, beautiful girl, yet you seem so weary. If I'm not mistaken, you're suffering from premature aging?"
Wen Jinjin was well-versed, identifying an illness with a glance that Bei Lin had never even heard of before.
"I have no idea what it is, that's why I came to see if there's any hope. If not, I can give up sooner."
Bei Lin spoke casually, but only she knew the importance of appearance and age for a woman. If there's truly no chance of recovery, her and Tang Rao... would be forever star-crossed.
"Give up sooner? That doesn't seem like your style. Someone who won't give up another's life easily, how could you let go of your own life so quickly?"
Wen Jinjin's pale face was full of smiles. She trusted her intuition with people, especially those around her age.
"But my illness is so strange, I should have resigned myself long ago. If it weren't for my heart's stubbornness, I would have given up."
Bei Lin's stubbornness was because of Tang Rao.
Ever since she volunteered to marry Tang Rao, her heart held that stubbornness.
"Is it because of the man you love?"
Wen Jinjin guessed right away. Bei Lin hadn't mentioned her man, but she nodded with a smile, not hiding anything from Wen Jinjin.
