Chapter 1230: Love
Chapter 1230: Love
After having a deep talk with her elderly father, Amelia Linton quietly began to reflect on herself. For several nights she could hardly fall asleep; she kept going over everything she had done all these years.
The more she reflected, the more she felt she had been wrong—she had gone wrong more than twenty years ago, and in all the years since she had only made mistake upon mistake. She hadn’t just hurt other people; she had hurt herself, and even more, she had hurt the family who truly cared about her.
In that moment, Amelia silently swore to herself that from now on she would correct this mistake, that she would try to get back everything she had lost, and that she would give her love to the family members who cared for her and loved her the most.
With this realization and decision made, Amelia started to take action, beginning with Easton Holmes, Lily Turner, and Callix Linton. She began with little things in daily life, putting her heart into taking care of them and looking out for them.
Callix Linton was the first to feel Amelia’s change. Seeing the change in his daughter, he felt genuinely happy and comforted.
Seeing his own mother truly change from the bottom of her heart, Easton Holmes at first wasn’t quite used to it. Ever since his mother had sent him to his grandpa’s house more than twenty years ago, he had never again felt any motherly love from her.
Motherly love had been absent from his life for over twenty years, and now it felt so unfamiliar to him. To him, "mother’s love" was just a word in a book; he really didn’t know what that feeling was supposed to be like.
It wasn’t just Easton who felt out of place; even Amelia herself wasn’t quite used to it. In her mind, her son was still that little boy from more than twenty years ago, yet standing in front of her now was a man in his early thirties.
Her son was already married and had a steady career, and in a little while he was about to become a father. She was about to be upgraded to a grandmother.
She felt like she was dreaming, as if these scenes only existed in her dreams. She was afraid that when she woke up, all of this would be gone, vanished into thin air.
There really was some fear in her heart—fear that everything she had finally managed to get back would suddenly disappear again.
Because she was afraid it would all suddenly vanish, Amelia became especially attentive. Whether it was with Callix Linton or with Easton Holmes and Lily Turner, she put in many times more effort than before—especially toward the pregnant Lily, whom she treated with extra care and caution.
"Mom! You’ve already bought more than enough stuff for the baby. You really don’t need to buy anything else." The nursery was already piled high with all kinds of baby supplies, and the closet was stuffed full of baby clothes. Lily was worried that if she didn’t put a stop to it, Amelia would keep buying and buying until the nursery couldn’t even hold it all.
But Amelia felt it was far from enough. She kept feeling that something was missing, though she didn’t know exactly what. "This is not enough. I still think we’re short a lot of things. Help me take a look, see what else we’re missing."
She just had this sense that things were lacking, but she herself wasn’t very clear what exactly was missing.
"Mom, we really aren’t missing anything. You’ve basically bought everything." Lily looked around the nursery; she didn’t feel there was anything else they needed. They had bought two sets of everything—boy and girl versions—and it was all very complete, with all kinds and styles.
Amelia still felt it wasn’t enough. She went over to check item by item, then opened the wardrobe to look through the clothes inside. After carefully going over them one by one, she still couldn’t see what was missing.
"For now I really can’t think of anything else to buy. I’ll wait until I think of something, then I’ll go and get it." In the end she made this decision—she would buy more later if anything came to mind.
