Chapter 44 The Return of the Mysterious Sound Source and the Fear of the Unknown

Chapter 44 The Return of the Mysterious Sound Source and the Fear of the Unknown

In the forest, a low, buzzing sound, like muffled thunder, echoed continuously in the increasingly dim environment, each sound striking heavily into everyone's hearts. The fierce battle with those strange monsters had already left Huanmo and the others exhausted, both physically and mentally, but this sudden, mysterious sound pulled them back into an abyss of tension and fear.

Huanmo gripped the crystal-like object he'd taken from the monster tightly, his gaze warily fixed on the direction from which the sound came. His heart pounded involuntarily, filled with doubt and unease. "That voice... how did it appear again? Could it be related to those monsters?" he wondered to himself. The pain in his back became more pronounced in this tense moment, but he couldn't care less. His only worry was what new danger might befall Wanru and her companions.

Wanru hid behind Huanmo, her small hands clutching his clothes tightly, her body still trembling slightly. The terrifying battle she had just experienced, the hideous faces of those strange monsters, were still haunting her mind. Hearing this buzzing sound now, her fear was amplified infinitely. "Huanmo, I'm scared... This sound is so frightening, is something terrible coming again?" Her voice, trembling with tears, sounded particularly helpless in the silent forest.

The man in white, holding a jade flute, stood solemnly to one side. He, too, stared intently at the source of the sound, his mind racing, searching for a solution. "This forest is eerie. First, the woman in colorful clothes and the mysterious man in black turned into monsters, and now this strange noise has appeared. There must be something fishy going on." He frowned, his grip on the jade flute tightening unconsciously, ready to respond to any unforeseen events. Yet, he also felt a sense of helplessness; faced with these successive unknown dangers, he felt somewhat overwhelmed.

Qingwan, pale-faced, leaned weakly against a tree. The battle had nearly exhausted all her spiritual energy, and she could barely stand. But hearing the buzzing sound, she forced herself to stay awake, clutching the spirit orb tightly in her hand, though its light was almost invisible. "What is happening... I hope it's not something worse," she murmured, her eyes filled with exhaustion and despair.

The white tiger growled softly nearby, its blue eyes filled with vigilance and unease. It crouched, ready to pounce on any potential threat. The battle with the monster had left it somewhat wounded, but it paid no heed. As a companion protecting everyone, its duty was to safeguard them, and it would not back down no matter the danger.

As the buzzing grew louder, the air in the forest seemed to vibrate, and the surrounding trees trembled, their leaves rustling as if whispering in fear. The already dim light grew even dimmer, and shadows spread through the woods like invisible hands, ready to devour everyone at any moment.

Suddenly, a blinding light shot out from the depths of the forest, as dazzling as the sun, and everyone instinctively shielded their eyes with their hands. As the light subsided slightly, they looked closely and saw a huge metallic object slowly emerging from the depths.

The metal object resembled a giant cylinder, as tall as a dozen stories. Its surface was covered with various strange patterns and shimmering runes, which constantly flashed, seemingly releasing some kind of mysterious power. At the top of the cylinder, a huge circular device was constantly rotating, emitting a buzzing sound.

Upon seeing this, everyone gasped. Huanmo inwardly groaned. He had thought he could finally catch his breath after getting rid of those strange monsters, but now this enormous creature had appeared. Judging by its appearance, it was likely more troublesome than any of the dangers they had encountered before. "What... what the hell is this? Why is this forest full of these bizarre things?" He couldn't help but complain to himself, but he still encouraged everyone aloud, "Don't panic, everyone! Let's figure out a way to deal with this together!"

Wanru was terrified, her face turning deathly pale. She clung tightly to Huanmo's arm, curling her body into a ball. "Huanmo, let's run! This thing looks so scary. I don't want to face these terrifying things anymore..." she said in a trembling voice, her eyes filled with fear and pleading.

The man in white took a deep breath. He knew that running away was not the best option. The forest was fraught with danger, and no one knew where it would be safe. "Don't rush to run. Let's see if we can find its weakness. Maybe then we'll have a chance," he said calmly. Although he wasn't sure himself, as the most composed person among them, he had to keep everyone calm.

Qingwan closed her eyes, concentrating all her mental energy, attempting to cast a spell again, using the power of the Spirit Pearl to create a protective barrier for everyone. But she knew in her heart that with her current spiritual power, the barrier probably wouldn't last long. "Spirit Pearl, please help us one more time..." she prayed silently, her forehead covered in fine beads of sweat.

The white tiger also sensed the threat posed by the massive metal object. It arched its back, growled softly, and stared intently at the cylinder with its blue eyes, ready to pounce and deliver a fatal blow at any moment. However, it also understood that this thing was by no means so easy to deal with.

Just as everyone was watching the huge metal object with bated breath, the runes on the surface of the cylinder suddenly began to flash even more intensely. Then, streaks of blue lightning shot out from all around the cylinder, crackling and flashing in the air as they enveloped the crowd.

Unable to dodge in time, everyone was struck by the blue lightning, instantly feeling a tingling sensation spread throughout their bodies, causing them to tremble involuntarily. Huanmo gritted his teeth, enduring the pain, and tried to rush forward to fight the pillar in close combat. However, after taking only a few steps, he was struck by an even stronger bolt of lightning, causing him to fall to the ground, and the crystal object in his hand almost slipped from his grasp.

"Huanmo!" Wanru exclaimed, trying to rush over to help him up, but was pulled back by the man in white. "Don't go, it's too dangerous!" the man in white shouted, but his voice was hoarse from the electric shock.

Qingwan watched as the protective barrier crumbled under the impact of the blue lightning, her heart filled with despair. She tried her best to maintain the power of the spirit orb, but it felt like a mantis trying to stop a chariot, completely unable to withstand this powerful attack.

Just when everyone was in dire straits, Huanmo suddenly noticed that the crystal object in his hand was becoming brighter under the stimulation of the blue electric light, and he seemed to be able to sense that the object contained a peculiar energy that was resonating with the blue electric light.

Huanmo's heart stirred. Ignoring his injuries, he struggled to get up from the ground, gripped the crystal object tightly, and walked towards the huge cylinder.

Seeing this, the man in white didn't understand what Huanmo was up to, but he believed Huanmo must have a reason, so he followed. At the same time, he played his jade flute again, this time with a more stirring melody, as if cheering Huanmo on. Qingwan cast spells from behind, providing some assistance to Huanmo and the man in white, allowing them to more easily approach the weak point of the giant pillar.

Wanru watched their actions nervously, her palms sweating, silently praying for their success.

However, just as Huanmo and the man in white were about to approach the pillar, the circular device at the top of the pillar suddenly stopped rotating, and the surrounding runes also stopped flashing. The entire forest instantly fell silent.

Everyone was taken aback, wondering what had caused the sudden silence. Just as they were wondering, the runes on the pillar began to flicker with an eerie light, and a huge wave of energy emanated from the pillar, sweeping towards them.
