Chapter 2 Leukemia
Chapter 2 Leukemia
She applied pressure with her hand, and the pain made me grimace.
Seeing the pained expression on my face, Song Yafei laughed gleefully: "It's impossible for the two of us to part ways amicably!"
"Unless you die!"
Upon hearing those four words, my body couldn't help but tremble.
The love that I once pursued with unwavering determination and was willing to give everything to protect has, years later, pierced my heart like a sharp sword!
I walked out of Yafei's room in a daze, only to find Yu Chengliang sitting quietly at the door.
Seeing me come out, Yu Chengliang threw the flowers in the vase into the trash can and looked at me with disdain.
"Brother Zhang, why are you doing this? Why won't you just let Sister Yafei go?"
"Do you want money? Tell me how much you want, and I'll give you the money! Why don't you leave Sister Yafei?"
"Yafei and I are the true love, please, please let us be together!"
He was right at the door, didn't he hear what Song Yafei said?
The person who's been bothering me isn't me, it's Song Yafei! She's the one who won't let me go.
I didn't want to say much to Yu Chengliang. I just went to the trash can, numbly picked up the flowers, and put them back in the vase.
Seeing that I ignored him, Yu Chengliang angrily pulled the flowers out of the vase and threw them into the trash can!
"Stop waving your lousy flowers around all day! Do you think that'll make your sister even glance at you?"
"She loves me!"
The flowers in the trash can, like my heart, are broken and fragmented.
This time, I didn't take out the bouquet of flowers again. Instead, I ignored his sarcastic remarks behind my back and went back to my room.
The next morning, Song Yafei and Yu Chengliang left home very early, leaving the house empty except for me.
Song Yafei doesn't go home often; she usually lives in another villa.
That villa was specially prepared by her for her lovers. In that villa, they spent every day together, as sweet as a couple newly in love.
I've had those days too.
Looking at the empty house, I sighed and prepared to get up and make breakfast.
But just then, I felt pain again.
The excruciating pain made me almost curl up, as if reminding me that I didn't have much time left.
I shakily moved step by step to the head of the bed, opened the drawer, took two painkillers, and after a while, the pain slowly subsided.
For this last period of time, let me live for myself.
In the empty house, the cell phone suddenly rang. It was the director of the orphanage calling; he had also received the report from the hospital.
The hospital director told me to actively cooperate with the treatment, and I readily agreed after hearing his words.
After I hung up the phone, I heard footsteps.
Song Yafei actually went home.
She opened the door, saw the painkillers on my desk, and looked puzzled: "Is something wrong with your health?"
I quickly stuffed the painkillers into my pocket and waved my hand, saying, "It's nothing, I just have a bit of an upset stomach lately."
"Did you forget something when you came back?"
Seeing how perfunctory I was with her, Song Yafei stopped asking the question and went inside to start rummaging through my wardrobe.
“There’s a charity auction today. I’m planning to ask Xiao Liang to come with me. He doesn’t have a suit that fits him yet. I’ll borrow yours for him to wear.”
Yu Chengliang, such a big internet celebrity, doesn't even own a decent suit? Don't they ever think before they lie?
Song Yafei searched for a long time, but still couldn't find what she wanted in my wardrobe.
She looked up, her face filled with disbelief.
"Zhang Tian, you hid your suit? There's no time! Get it out now!"
It seems she herself has forgotten that a few days ago she got drunk and vomited on that suit, and hasn't gotten it back from the dry cleaners yet.
"It's lost."
Upon hearing my casual words, Song Yafei suddenly lost control, rushed over, and grabbed my collar.
"What are you talking about? That was the birthday present I gave you! You lost it?"
Because I had just taken painkillers, my body inexplicably felt a surge of excitement. I didn't feel suffocated; instead, I burst into excited laughter.
"Is that not allowed? You've already given it to me, so what I do with it is my business!"
"it is good!"
"Zhang Tian, you're doing great!"
With bloodshot eyes, Song Yafei let go of his hand and left home without looking back.
After she left, I bought some milk and fruit and went to the orphanage.
When the hospital director saw me, he hurried over, his voice tinged with worry: "Zhang Tian, didn't I tell you to cooperate actively with the treatment? Why are you here? If you continue like this, I'm afraid..."
I smiled nonchalantly, put down the fruit and milk, and changed the subject: "Auntie Dean, how is Sasha?"
"Why haven't I seen this little one today? She's usually the most excited one when I come."
After hearing what I said, the dean remained silent for a while, then sighed helplessly.
What's going on? A bad feeling welled up inside me.
The dean took out a report from his drawer, which showed that Sasha had late-stage leukemia!
"When did this happen? Why didn't you call me to tell me? Why are you only telling me now!"
I looked at the dean, my tone very urgent.
Sasha and I are very close. She has always followed me around since she was little and calls me brother!
When I left the orphanage, she hugged me and cried so hard she couldn't breathe.
So, whenever I had time, I would come over to play with Sasha, and Sasha would always listen excitedly as I told her stories about the outside world.
When I married Song Yafei, Sasha was my flower girl.
I also thought about bringing Sasha out of the orphanage to live with us, but Sasha refused. She said she couldn't bear to leave her friends and the director of the orphanage.
Unexpectedly, the next news I heard about Sasha was that she had leukemia!
Seeing my state, the hospital director lowered his head in shame: "We've already visited all the well-known hospitals in the country, but the exorbitant treatment fees are simply unaffordable for us!"
"You know our orphanage has been relying on outside aid to stay afloat. I really have no other choice..."
Even if there's only a sliver of hope, I won't give up.
"Dean, how much will it cost to treat Sasha's illness? I'll start preparing right now. Even if I have to sell everything I own, I will definitely save Sasha's life!"
The dean looked at me and sighed helplessly, "We still need more than two million..."
