Chapter 76 Dark Clouds
Chapter 76 Dark Clouds
"What was Pei Shen mumbling about just now?" Jin Xiaoyue asked quietly.
"You're reciting your lesson, aren't you?" Chu Deng smirked.
Jin Xiaoyue nodded blankly, "Oh, oh."
Chu Deng rested her chin on her palm, lost in thought, the sound of her classmates reading aloud filling the air. She calmly thought that whether in her past life or this one, students in China could never escape being manipulated by the school.
Amidst the cacophony of sounds, Chu Deng could hear a deep voice outside the door reading English word by word, the tongue moving to produce musical notes, a sound so captivating it seemed to melt one's heart between his vibrant lips and tongue.
Chu Deng smiled casually as she glanced out the window at the budding spring colors.
The peach blossoms are in bloom.
Suddenly, a patch of pitch black appeared out of the delicate peach-colored light. A familiar-looking crow perched on the branch directly opposite Chu Deng, flapping its wings at her.
Chu Deng pursed her lips, turned her gaze away, and picked a passage from the textbook to read. Although every word was imprinted in her mind and she couldn't forget it even if she wanted to, with Zhang Yijing watching over her, she would always find something to do to pass the time. In reality, she was cultivating her supernatural abilities while reading.
Seeing that Chu Deng wasn't looking at it, the crows outside the window moved away from the branches but didn't fly into the classroom.
It came looking for its benefactor earlier, and during class, it entered the classroom and stood on Chu Deng's shoulder, startling the Chinese teacher who was teaching at the time.
The Chinese teacher was worried that the wild crow might carry a virus that could harm the homeroom teacher's precious child. Despite her fear, she mustered up her courage and waved her tablet in the air, trying to drive away the crow that had perched on Chu Deng's shoulder. Later, Chu Deng grabbed the crow's head and pushed it away. The Chinese teacher then prevented Chu Deng from attending class and had someone take Chu Deng to the infirmary. She also specifically notified Luo Xia and Chu Junhai.
Chu Deng, who had made a big splash, gained a new nickname that very day – "Crow Girl".
That evening, Chu Deng specially found it and caught a water snake that it feared most, making it challenge it. Although the crow, exhausted and half dead, received a sparkling sapphire, it ultimately learned its lesson and dared not easily fly into Chu Deng's classroom again.
This crow was the little guy Chu Deng saw by the lake during the second semester of his first year of high school, and who was taken to the infirmary by Jin Xiaoyue.
Ever since Chu Deng removed the water snake's cold poison from it in the infirmary, the crow has been clinging to her.
Every spring, I would fly to Haishi No.1 High School with great anticipation to see her.
While you're at it, let Chu Deng see the babies it gave birth to this year.
Crows usually breed from March to July. Last May, it brought two baby crows to Haishi No.1 High School to see Chu Deng. Chu Deng felt that it had lost its vitality after giving birth to the crows, so it fed it some fire element to replenish its body.
Unexpectedly, the crow disappeared the next day, leaving two baby crows at school. The baby crows seemed to recognize her, and no one knew how their mother communicated with them. As soon as Chu Deng left the classroom, they cawed and flew around her.
To avoid being discovered, Chu Deng took a day off and searched most of the city to catch a crow, then handed the baby crow over to its mother.
After a long and patient conversation between the man and the crow, Chu Deng understood the crow's meaning. It felt that Chu Deng was feeding it fire element, and in exchange, it would leave the little crow with Chu Deng.
The crow seemed to understand Chu Deng's meaning; its benefactor did not want its offspring, so it took its cub away.
Chu Deng was a little reluctant to deal with the crow. This fire-type mutated crow was quite intelligent and could actually be trained as a battle beast. However, since it shared the same attribute as Chu Deng and she was enjoying a peaceful life at school and didn't need a battle beast, the two maintained this relationship of mutual support.
That's right. Chu Deng felt that this incredibly clever crow thought of her as some kind of lord. It had a cub and came to see if the lord would allow it to raise it. What could Chu Deng do?
She had witnessed the cruelty among the alien beasts in the apocalypse. Even highly intelligent alien beasts were divided into ranks, with lower-ranking beasts being dominated by higher-ranking beasts. Even reproducing required the consent of the lords, and offspring disliked by their lords would be killed by their parents.
However, Chu Deng did not notice any other birds fluttering nearby. To ordinary animals, strange beasts are like tigers and rabbits; ordinary animals would be startled and avoid them if they sensed their presence.
Chu Deng has strong control over his supernatural abilities and has restrained his intimidating power, so this situation will not occur.
Only the crow came by itself; I wonder what happened that brought it to her?
She once taught crows that if something was life-threatening, they could go directly to the classroom or her house; if they didn't go to the classroom, it probably wasn't a big deal.
The crow tilted its head and followed Chu Deng's gaze, hopping around on the branches, trying to get Chu Deng to see it.
My benefactor, my benefactor, I'm here!
The fire crow, jumping around and making a commotion, didn't attract Chu Deng's attention, but it was seen by others.
"Xing, look at the tree!" A leaf fell on Meng Qiuhe's head as he stood in the corridor. He looked up and saw a crow. While Zhao Lesheng was patrolling Class Two, he whispered to Pei Hanxing.
Pei Hanxing looked in the direction Meng Qiuhe pointed, but the bird seemed to be startled and suddenly flew up, circling the corridor before landing on another tree a little distance away from him.
"Dengdeng, I think I just saw dark clouds!" Jin Xiaoyue noticed the movement in the corridor out of the corner of her eye. Her eyes darted around and locked onto the tree branches outside the window diagonally behind her.
That's right. Jin Xiaoyue felt a deep bond with the crow she saved years ago and even named it "Wuyun" (meaning "dark cloud"). She cried after releasing Wuyun, and Chu Deng comforted her. Last year, because of the little crow, Chu Deng had to take leave and didn't have time to tell Jin Xiaoyue that Wuyun had come to visit them. This time, there was no need to hide it.
“That’s it,” Chu Deng replied.
"Really?" Jin Xiaoyue was somewhat incredulous, glancing back every now and then.
Chu Deng turned her head back. "There are still a few minutes until get out of class ends. Don't worry, it won't run away."
"Mmm." Jin Xiaoyue nodded and obediently waited for the bell to ring under Chu Deng's gaze.
As soon as the bell rang, Jin Xiaoyue, like a cheerful lark, hopped out of the classroom, pulling Chu Deng along, and flew straight to the tree where the dark clouds were.
"Dark Cloud, are you coming to see me and Dengdeng?" Jin Xiaoyue asked.
She kept parrots when she was a child, and even though she knew crows couldn't talk, she was used to talking to the clouds.
Jin Xiaoyue hadn't expected a response from Wuyun; she was good at asking and answering her own questions. But Wuyun's behavior surprised her.
The dark clouds let out a sharp "ga" as if in response to "yes".
Jin Xiaoyue looked at Chu Deng suspiciously, while Chu Deng calmly looked back at Jin Xiaoyue.
"Ah, didn't I tell you that Wuyun is a fire-type beast?" Chu Deng's tone was clearly amused.
Jin Xiaoyue remembered the term "mythical beast" from Teacher Chu's explanation of supernatural abilities last night; it refers to animals with supernatural abilities. However, she didn't quite understand how it specifically relates to Wuyun's behavior.
"So?" Jin Xiaoyue didn't understand what her friend meant.
"So its intelligence is equivalent to that of a teenager, and it can understand some people's speech."
