Chapter 153 Inhuman
Chapter 153 Inhuman
Deep within the Antarctic ice fissures.
In the deep, dark, desolate land, a faint rustling sound broke the deathly silence. Sharp claws pierced through the hard frozen ground, revealing a sliver of light shining into the ice crevice.
"Woo woof..." A dire wolf licked its dry nose, calling softly to its kind. Its paws were injured by the frozen ground, with tiny bloodstains everywhere, and every step it took was excruciatingly painful.
But the approaching scent and signals compelled it to continue digging at the frozen ground, while it kept whimpering to comfort the other trapped wolf cub, hoping it would soon be able to successfully bring the cub back to the pack.
Pei Hanxing struggled to open his eyes, but could only see a blurry light. His weak body and spirit could no longer hold on, and a burning sensation, as if boiling, emanated from his lower left abdomen. However, he had no time to pay attention to it and closed his eyes, falling into a deep sleep.
Several days later, when Pei Hanxing opened his eyes again, he found that he had been rescued from the crevice. A ripple of emotion stirred in his heart as he looked around.
This was a warm and dry den, not the Antarctic base he was familiar with. Knowing something was amiss, Pei Hanxing pursed his lips and was about to continue observing when he heard footsteps and the howling of wolves.
Pei Hanxing shrank back in with difficulty, but could hardly find any cover. He could only stare helplessly at the entrance of the cave. He propped himself up with his hands on the ground and was startled by a furry thing that suddenly brushed against the back of his hand. His back hit the stone wall with a dull "thud".
"Waaah... Sob sob..."
what sound?
Pei Hanxing turned to look at what had brushed against the back of her hand when she heard quickened footsteps at the cave entrance. In the blink of an eye, several familiar-looking ice wolves howled and ran in.
The snarling dire wolves saw Pei Hanxing sitting halfway down. The first few stopped, and then a strong gray wolf crawled in from behind, standing not far from Pei Hanxing and watching him. With a howl, a rabbit was violently thrown in front of Pei Hanxing by the wolf behind, and the splattered blood left a wet trail on the ground.
"Whoa, whoa..."
Pei Hanxing then noticed a group of wolf cubs beside her. They hadn't opened their eyes yet, but seemed to sense their parents' return and were making hungry cries.
Turning his head, he saw that the two female wolves had already approached Pei Hanxing, bypassing him as if he were not there, and started feeding their cubs. The other wolves had already begun to process the rabbits they had hunted at the entrance of the den, eating heartily.
Pei Hanxing paused for a moment, then, without changing her expression, grabbed the rabbit in front of her, opened her mouth and bit its neck, sucking its sticky, fishy blood.
Although he didn't know why he was accepted by a pack of wolves, Pei Hanxing had no choice but to wait and see how things developed in order to survive, and temporarily lie low here.
Even if they lived the life of wild beasts, eating raw meat and drinking blood.
It's better than dying in a crevice in the ice.
He still wanted to see Chu Deng alive...
Chu Deng...
Pei Hanxing was lost in thought about that person, clumsily gnawing on the rabbit meat. His hand became damp and warm. He looked down and saw a little wolf cub refusing to eat, sucking on the back of his hand and occasionally licking it.
The mother wolf lay nearby licking her cubs' fur. Seeing the cubs not doing their job, she howled at Pei Hanxing.
Pei Hanxing was taken aback. He seemed to understand what the mother wolf meant; she wanted him to help her throw her ignorant cubs to her.
An unknown fear gripped Pei Hanxing's heart. He slowly exhaled, his hands trembling as he pinched the wolf cub by the scruff of its neck and offered it to him.
The mother wolf licked his hand gratefully, then bit the cub's head. Pei Hanxing released his grip, and the cub howled. The mother wolf ignored him, placing the cub on her belly. The cub sniffed as it found its destination and began to eat.
Pei Hanxing touched the back of her hand, feeling utterly empty inside.
It seems he... can't go back...
