Chapter 65 The Secret of Inheritance
Chapter 65 The Secret of Inheritance
We held our breath and carefully circled around the pile of rocks ahead. Not far away, we saw two groups of people fighting fiercely, the aftershocks of their spiritual energy collisions sending dust flying all around.
“It’s Pavilion Master Sima and… the masked man!” I said in a low voice, feeling even more uneasy.
Wen Chen's expression was solemn. He didn't speak, but simply gripped my hand tightly and moved silently into the shadows to one side.
"What are they fighting over?" I asked in a low voice, my eyes following their movements.
“I don’t know,” Wen Chen shook his head, “but it seems to be related to inheritance.”
I followed his gaze and saw a stone platform in the center of the battle between the two sides. Something seemed to be placed on the stone platform, but it was obscured by the fierce fighting and could not be seen clearly.
"What do we do?" I turned to look at Wen Chen, a little uneasy. "Should we go over there?"
Wen Chen didn't answer, but instead pulled me back until we were far away from the fighting area before we stopped.
“We won’t get involved in their fight,” he said in a deep voice. “Let’s find Miss Ye and Elder Yue first.”
I nodded. Although I was curious about what was on the stone platform, I didn't dare to take any risks at this moment.
We continued along the passage, proceeding cautiously and avoiding several patrols of guards, until we finally found a stone door at the end of the passage.
The stone gate was tightly closed, covered with ancient runes, exuding a mysterious aura.
"This should be it." Wen Chen looked at the stone gate, his tone carrying a hint of certainty.
A thought suddenly struck me: Could this be the place where the inheritance is located?
We exchanged a glance, and Wen Chen stepped forward, placing his hand on the stone door.
As he moved, the runes on the stone gate suddenly lit up, and a powerful spiritual force instantly enveloped us.
The next moment, the stone door slowly opened, revealing a spacious secret chamber.
In the center of the secret chamber, a dazzling light floated, and within the light, an ancient altar could be vaguely seen. A powerful spiritual energy emanated from the altar, filling the entire secret chamber.
“This is what inheritance is…” I murmured to myself, my eyes filled with awe.
"careful!"
Wen Chen suddenly pulled me behind him, his eyes fixed warily on the direction of the altar.
The light around the altar distorted, and a tall figure slowly emerged.
It was a warrior clad in armor and wielding a long sword. His face was devoid of features, only a blurry blur of light and shadow, but judging from the powerful aura emanating from him, he was no ordinary person.
“Guardian spirit…” Wen Chen said in a low voice, a trace of solemnity flashing in his eyes, “It seems that obtaining the inheritance is not so easy.”
I gripped Wen Chen's hand tightly, a sense of unease rising within me.
The guardian spirit slowly turned its head, its empty eyes falling on us.
"Those who trespass on this forbidden area..."
His voice was deep and resonant, carrying an ancient and imposing aura.
"Die!" The guardian spirit's words had barely left its lips when its longsword, carrying immense force, slashed down at us. Wen Chen reacted with lightning speed, pulling me aside to dodge. The sword's energy grazed my cheek, leaving a burning sting.
"Yao'er, are you alright?" Wen Chen looked at me with concern, his eyes full of worry.
I shook my head, forcing myself to speak through the pain, "I'm fine, be careful!"
Seeing that its first attack had missed, the guardian spirit roared and swung its sword again. We dared not be careless and each unleashed our magical weapons, engaging the guardian spirit in fierce combat.
Wen Chen's attacks were fierce and domineering, each move aimed directly at the guardian spirit's vitals, while my attacks were more flexible and varied, using speed and movement to maneuver around the guardian spirit.
However, the guardian spirits are, after all, beings that protect the legacy, and their power is immense. Even though we joined forces, we were still at a disadvantage.
"His weakness is in his chest!" I noticed that the light in his chest would dim slightly after each attack by the guardian spirit, so I immediately reminded Wen Chen.
Wen Chen understood immediately, seized the opportunity, concentrated all his spiritual power at the tip of his sword, and thrust the sword towards the guardian spirit's chest.
"Roar!" The guardian spirit let out a painful roar, the light on its chest dimmed instantly, and its movements became much slower.
"I have a chance!" I was overjoyed and once again activated my spiritual power. The magic weapon in my hand transformed into a stream of light and attacked the guardian spirit.
Just when we thought victory was in sight, a powerful surge of spiritual energy suddenly emanated from the entrance to the secret chamber.
"Oh no, someone's coming!" I was startled and turned around to see the masked man and Master Sima walking in side by side, their faces filled with greed, their eyes fixed on the altar behind us.
"The inheritance is mine!" Pavilion Master Sima shouted, taking the lead and launching a fierce attack straight at Wen Chen.
The masked man was not to be outdone. He flashed and appeared in front of me, the dagger in his hand gleaming with a chilling light.
"Yao'er!" Wen Chen exclaimed in surprise, wanting to rush back to help, but he was tightly entangled by the guardian spirit and could not break free at all.
I was extremely anxious, but faced with the masked man's attack, I could only grit my teeth and fight back.
"Wen Chen, let's join forces and deal with these two first. Then we can each rely on our own abilities to inherit the legacy!" Pavilion Master Sima said to the masked man while attacking.
The masked man snorted coldly and remained silent, but his attacks became even more ferocious.
Wen Chen and I were surrounded by enemies on both sides, and the situation was extremely critical. After a long battle, we had exhausted most of our immortal power, and our guardian spirit was still watching us closely, as were the masked man and Pavilion Master Sima. What should we do?
Just then, the entire chamber suddenly began to shake violently, with loose stones falling from the stone walls overhead, as if an earthquake had occurred...
"What's going on?" I exclaimed, a sense of foreboding rising in my heart.
"Oh no, the maze is collapsing!" Wen Chen's expression changed drastically, his voice filled with anxiety. "We must leave here as soon as possible!"
However, before we could take any action, an even more powerful energy surge emanated from the depths of the secret chamber, instantly engulfing the entire chamber in a dazzling light...
"Yao'er—"
I heard Wen Chen's heart-wrenching cries, my consciousness gradually blurred, and everything before my eyes turned dark... "Yao'er, Yao'er!" In my daze, I heard someone calling me, the voice anxious and worried. I tried to open my eyes, but found my eyelids as heavy as lead.
"Don't worry, she just fainted, she's fine." Another aged voice rang out, carrying a hint of calm.
I felt someone channeling spiritual energy into me; the warm aura flowed through my body, making me feel much better. I finally opened my eyes and saw Wen Chen's anxious face. When he saw that I was awake, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief: "Yao'er, you're finally awake!"
"What happened? How did we end up like this..." I struggled to sit up, only to find myself lying in Wen Chen's arms.
"The maze collapsed, and we were buried underneath." Wen Chen helped me sit up and explained, "Fortunately, Elder Yue and Miss Ye arrived in time and rescued us."
I then noticed that we were in a relatively safe corner. The stone wall above us had collapsed, and only a faint light was filtering in through the cracks. Elder Yue and Miss Ye were checking the situation not far away, and their expressions were not good.
"Elder Yue, what happened? Why did the maze suddenly collapse?" I asked.
"Ah, it's a long story," Elder Yue sighed. "While Miss Ye and I were searching for you, we accidentally triggered a mechanism in the maze, releasing a powerful energy fluctuation..."
"Energy fluctuations?" A thought struck me, recalling the powerful energy I had sensed in the secret chamber earlier. Could it be that the collapse of the maze was related to that energy?
"This energy fluctuation seems to have alerted other unknown creatures in the ruins, and they are gathering towards us," Miss Ye said gravely. "We must leave here as soon as possible, or we'll be in danger!"
"Other unknown creatures?" I was shocked. Besides the guardian spirit, there were other creatures in these ruins?
"Roar--"
As soon as Miss Ye finished speaking, a series of deafening roars came from afar, and the ground shook violently.
"Oh no, they're here!" Elder Yue's expression changed drastically. "We have to leave!"
We dared not linger and immediately got up, running towards the exit. However, the maze was full of collapsed rocks and narrow passages, making every step extremely difficult.
The roars behind me grew closer and closer, and I could feel the ground trembling, as if a powerful force was approaching.
"Wen Chen, what should we do?" I asked anxiously.
Wen Chen didn't speak, but simply held my hand tightly, his eyes fixed firmly ahead. I knew he must have a way.
"We must deal with the guardian spirit as soon as possible and obtain the inheritance!" Wen Chen suddenly said, his tone firm and decisive. "Only in this way can we leave this place!"
I nodded; I knew he was right. We had no way out now; only by fighting to the death could we have a glimmer of hope!
We quickened our pace and finally arrived at the secret chamber we had entered before. The guardian spirit still stood before the altar, its aura even stronger than before, as if it had absorbed this energy fluctuation, becoming even more terrifying.
"Prepare for battle!" Wen Chen shouted, drew his longsword, and charged towards the guardian spirit.
I took a deep breath, summoned my magic weapon, and followed closely behind.
A life-and-death battle is about to begin!
Just as Wen Chen's sword tip was about to pierce the guardian spirit's chest, the guardian spirit suddenly let out a deafening roar, and an unprecedentedly powerful force erupted from its body... The guardian spirit's roar was deafening, as if it would collapse the entire secret chamber. I could clearly feel the surrounding spiritual energy become violent, and even the ground beneath my feet was shaking violently. Wen Chen's sword tip was only an inch away from the guardian spirit's chest, but it seemed to be blocked by an invisible force, unable to advance any further.
"Not good, this power..." Wen Chen's expression changed, and a trace of solemnity flashed in his eyes.
I understand what he means. This power has far exceeded our imagination, and is even several times stronger than the previous energy fluctuation!
"boom--"
Suddenly, a huge rock collapsed from the ceiling of the secret chamber, crashing heavily to the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust. I looked up and saw that the cracks in the ceiling were widening, as if it were about to collapse completely at any moment.
"The maze is about to collapse!" My heart sank, and a strong sense of unease welled up inside me.
"We can't delay any longer!" Wen Chen's voice rang in her ears, filled with unprecedented determination. "Yao'er, we must finish this quickly!"
I nodded, my eyes hardening. I knew there was no turning back now; we had to fight with everything we had to have a chance of survival!
Wen Chen took a deep breath, his hands quickly forming hand seals as he chanted incantations. As he chanted, the surrounding spiritual energy seemed to be drawn in, rushing wildly towards the longsword in his hand.
"Nine Heavens Thunder, heed my command! Thunder, come forth!"
With a roar, Wen Chen pointed his longsword at the guardian spirit, and a bolt of lightning as thick as a bucket struck down from the sky, hitting the guardian spirit hard.
A deafening roar erupted, illuminating the entire chamber with a blinding flash of lightning. The guardian spirit let out a piercing scream as its massive body was blasted away by the lightning, crashing heavily against the wall.
"A great opportunity!" I was overjoyed and immediately activated my magic weapon to attack the guardian spirit.
However, just as my attack was about to hit the guardian spirit, it suddenly raised its head, a cunning glint in its eyes.
"Oh no, it's a trap!" Alarm bells rang in my mind, and I tried to withdraw my attack, but it was too late.
Suddenly, the guardian spirit's body erupted with a blinding white light, and a powerful suction force pulled me towards it...
