Chapter 454 Ruthless Bandits!
Chapter 454 Ruthless Bandits!
"Brother Zhong!"
Ning Wei kept his voice very low, barely moving his lips, and gestured in that direction with his eyes. Clearly, he had also noticed the unusual behavior of the two people at that table.
"I'll go test the waters," Zhang Haiyang said, getting up to speak.
"Don't act rashly," Zhong Yuemin whispered, trying to stop him.
"Don't worry, I know it."
Zhang Haiyang returned the glance, then picked up the empty bowl on the table, pretending to get food, and walked towards the food serving window.
As I passed the table where the two men were sitting, I noticed a bulging military-green bag under it. I 'accidentally' kicked it; the bag was heavy and felt hard to the touch, definitely not clothing. The two men immediately looked up warily, and one of them snatched the bag away, his gaze dark and menacing.
Zhang Haiyang quickly nodded and apologized:
"Sorry, sorry, I wasn't paying attention." After saying that, he walked away naturally to the food window.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that the two men's facial muscles visibly tensed the moment he touched the military green bag, and one of their hands even subconsciously reached into their clothes.
After getting their food and sitting down, Zhang Haiyang leaned closer to the two of them, maintaining a relaxed expression.
“There’s definitely something wrong. That bag was quite heavy. Judging from their reaction, they might be thieves, and it might be filled with stolen goods.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the two people in the distance seemed to sense something was amiss. They quickly finished the last few bites of their food, got up, and paid the bill.
Before leaving, one of them turned around seemingly unintentionally and glanced at their table.
"What should we do?" Ning Wei asked.
“Let’s go, let’s follow them and see.” Zhong Yuemin made a quick decision.
The three men got up discreetly and followed the two men at a distance. There were many pedestrians on the street, which provided them with cover.
After following them for a while, I saw the two quicken their pace, then suddenly turn and disappear into a relatively quiet alley.
"We've been discovered?" Zhang Haiyang whispered.
"Stay close, don't lose me," Zhong Yuemin said in a deep voice.
The three quickened their pace and chased into the alley. The alley was narrow and deep, with mottled old walls on both sides. The figures of the two people in front of them flashed by at a right-angle bend.
Zhang Haiyang, being impatient, was in the lead and was about to follow him around the corner.
In that instant, Zhong Yuemin, who was half a step behind, instinctively sensed something was wrong—danger was imminent—through his years of battlefield experience.
"Don't rush...!"
He shouted, his left hand swiftly reaching out to grab Zhang Haiyang by the back of his collar, pulling him back.
"boom!!!"
Almost simultaneously, a sudden gunshot rang out from the other side of the corner. The high-speed bullet whistled past Haiyang's half-body that had just been sticking out and slammed into the brick wall at the corner!
"Crackling sound...!"
Brick and stone fragments, mixed with dust, flew everywhere, hitting the nearby walls and the ground with a crackling sound.
Zhang Haiyang was pulled backward by Zhong Yuemin, his back slamming heavily against the wall on the other side. His heart almost stopped beating for a moment, and a layer of cold sweat instantly appeared on his forehead.
"Fuck your mother's mother..."
Panting heavily, his voice trembled with lingering fear and rage. "If Yuemin hadn't pulled him back... he would truly be dead in this corner today!"
Damn it, I've never backed down in real battles against the ruthless Vietnamese army, but today I almost got caught in a ditch and fell into the hands of two unidentified thieves.
This is the greatest insult to his background as a reconnaissance soldier.
While Haiyang was cursing, Zhong Yuemin and Ning Wei had already dashed out. After turning the corner, ahead, the two figures were desperately running into the depths of the alley, occasionally turning back hastily to fire several shots.
Bullets struck the walls on both sides, kicking up more rubble and dust, but failed to slow down the pursuers.
The alley soon came to a fork, and the two people in front seemed to have planned ahead, and they fled in opposite directions without hesitation!
"Ning Wei!"
Zhong Yuemin shouted, instantly understanding. No further words were needed; a single glance was enough for the two to know exactly what was going on. He darted to the left, while Ning Wei rushed to the right, each chasing one of them.
The guy Zhong Yuemin caught up with probably wasn't very familiar with the terrain either. After many twists and turns, he ended up in a dead end, at the end of which was a brick wall nearly three meters high.
In desperation, the thugs surprisingly displayed impressive skills. After a few running steps, one foot pushed off the old, dilapidated chicken coop piled up in the corner, using the momentum to leap upwards. He barely managed to grab the top of the wall with both hands, and it looked like he was about to use his strength to flip over!
Zhong Yuemin caught up, bent down and picked up a heavy half-broken brick from the ground. With his waist and abdomen exerting force, he swung his arm like a whip, with a sharp whistling sound, hitting the thug's waist right where he had just raised it!
"Ugh!"
The assailant grunted, his fingers loosened their grip on the wall, and he lost his balance, falling heavily to the other side of the wall.
He quickly caught up, and without using the chicken coop for support, he used the wall as leverage, grabbed the top edge with his right hand, and with a push, nimbly flipped over the wall.
On the other side was a messy backyard. The thug staggered to his feet and was about to escape when the man was kicked from behind, falling face-first into the dirt. However, the man's reaction was extremely quick; the instant he fell, he raised his gun and fired blindly behind him.
But he was faster; before his finger could pull the trigger, the tip of his military boot struck his wrist precisely, sending the Type 54 pistol flying out of his hand and crashing into a pile of debris in the distance.
The assailant's eyes flashed with malice, and his other hand frantically grabbed at the military green canvas bag that had never left his side. Zhong Yuemin didn't give him another chance, slamming his right fist into his face. With a muffled groan, the assailant passed out instantly, clean and swift.
He crouched down to examine the contents of the military green bag, and as soon as he opened it...
Besides a few stacks of money and a Type 54 pistol, there were surprisingly several wooden-handled pull-string grenades.
If someone had pulled the fuse just now, causing an explosion, he probably wouldn't be in much better shape.
He had just subdued the man on one side when a loud explosion erupted on the other. Without time to deal with the culprit, he scaled the wall and followed the sound. At the alley entrance, Ning Wei had also subdued the man, but a deep crater had been blasted into the ground nearby, and the air was still thick with the smell of gunpowder.
He ran over quickly.
"Are you okay?"
Ning Wei shook his head.
"Just as I subdued him, this guy suddenly pulled out a grenade from his waist, the fuse was already pulled. If I hadn't kicked it away, we would both have been blown up."
After subduing the two men, Zhang Haiyang arrived. Both thugs were unconscious. They found three Type 54 pistols, one Mauser C96 pistol, several hand grenades, and over 20,000 yuan.
They found a basin of cold water on the spot, poured it over themselves, and the two woke up.
"Tell us the truth, what's your name? Where are you from? What did you do wrong? Don't try to fool us."
One begged for mercy.
"Brothers, please let us go. We...we are thieves. We were forced into this by life's hardships. We have elderly parents and young children to support. We will never do it again."
"Ah!"
Zhang Haiyang scoffed.
Do you think we're fools?
