Chapter 82 Critical Moment
Chapter 82 Critical Moment
Chen Fang looked up and saw her best friend, Lina, standing at the door with a bright smile on her face.
Lina approached her, staring at the book intently, with curiosity flashing in her eyes: "Are you flipping through that weird book again? You are always buried in these books, is there any secret?"
Chen Fang chuckled and closed the book: "There is no secret, I just recalled my childhood dream of curing diseases and saving lives."
Lina nodded, the smile on her face faded a little, and asked seriously: "Fang, do you really want to be a doctor? This road is not that easy."
"I know, but as long as we work hard, there will always be a way to achieve it." Chen Fang's tone was firm, with a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
Just as the two were happily chatting, there was a deafening thunder. Outside the window, dark clouds covered the sky, and lightning and thunder roared. Chen Fang and Lina looked at each other, and both had an uneasy premonition in their hearts.
"I think we'd better stay here and wait for the thunderstorm to pass." Lina said a little nervously, taking Chen Fang's hand and sitting back by the window.
However, not long after, a strong suction force came from the air, as if the entire space was distorted. The two hugged each other in fear, and with a dazzling light, their figures gradually disappeared in the summer thunderstorm.
When her vision became clear again, Chen Fang felt dizzy. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself in an unfamiliar place. She was surrounded by green mountains, gurgling streams, birds singing and flowers blooming. The breath of nature lingered in her ears. Lina was also beside her, looking equally confused.
"This...where is this?" Lina looked around, her eyes full of surprise.
"I don't know either. Maybe it was washed to another place by the thunderstorm." Chen Fang guessed, but a feeling of excitement inexplicably surged in his heart.
As they were talking and walking, they suddenly heard the sound of hurried horse hooves in front of them. The two were still frightened and at a loss, they could only stand there and observe the person coming.
A young man on horseback came running towards them. He was dressed in ancient costume and his handsome face contained a rebellious temperament. His horse stopped in front of the two men, and the dust he raised shone in the sun.
"What are you two young women doing here?" the man asked sternly, his eyes as sharp as a knife.
"We...we are travelers passing by." Lina stammered, looking very uncalm.
The man frowned and looked at the two men. Unlike an ordinary traveler, there seemed to be a trace of pity in his eyes. "This is a war-torn place, and there is poison everywhere. You better be careful."
"War?" Chen Fang's heart trembled, as if he vaguely felt the pain of this land.
"I heard that you were talking about curing diseases and saving lives. Why don't you follow me? There is a village here that is in need of doctors." The man softened his tone and frowned slightly, as if he was worried about their safety.
"We...how can we disturb other people's lives?" Lina hesitated, but the call deep in her heart drove her to go to that unknown place.
"In this era, it is our responsibility to cure diseases and save lives for the people." The man's tone became firm, as if conveying a sense of mission.
"Okay, we're willing to go with you." Chen Fang finally mustered up the courage, and fearless enthusiasm ignited in his heart.
"Fang, have you heard? Uncle Li at the east end of the village is sick, and very ill!" Lina hurriedly ran into the room and told Chen Fang breathlessly.
Chen Fang was sitting at a simple wooden table, flipping through a book about herbal medicine. When she heard this, she looked up and her eyes became firm: "I've heard that many people have started to have high fevers, accompanied by coughs and fatigue recently. We can't just sit there and do nothing!"
"Then what should we do?" Lina's face was full of anxiety. "I heard that many people have begun to flee. This disease is likely to spread."
"We must go see Uncle Li immediately, give him a checkup and see if we can find a way to treat him." Chen Fang stood up and quickly packed up the medicine box, her eyes flashing with the courage to not be afraid of difficulties.
The two of them went to Uncle Li's home together. On the way, the villagers all showed terrified expressions. Chen Fang tightly grasped the medicine box and thought to herself: No matter what, she can't let despair and fear spread in this village.
Walking into Mr. Li's home, the dim light casts a pale face on the bed. Mr. Li's daughter-in-law is beside him, with tears in her eyes and a dazed look.
"You're here! Uncle Li's condition is very bad. He's had a high fever for three days. He...he can't speak." The daughter-in-law's voice trembled, and her breaths were full of sadness.
Chen Fang immediately walked into the ward and began to check on Mr. Li. She gently placed her palm on the old man's forehead, and the high temperature made her heart tighten.
"Lina, go find some dried mint and Imperata root!" She instructed, busy taking Mr. Li's pulse. After confirming the weak and rapid pulse and the purple complexion, she gradually formed a treatment plan in her mind.
"I'll go right away!" Lina nodded, rushed out of the house and started to get busy.
Uncle Li's wife was standing by, and asked nervously, "Miss Fang, is Uncle Li in danger?"
"I will do my best to save him. Please rest assured." Chen Fang said in a firm tone, trying to appear calm.
She quickly began to treat him, preparing a medicinal soup and carefully feeding the hot water to the frail old man. During this process, Mr. Li occasionally woke up, with a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
"Miss Fang...Miss Fang, I..." Uncle Li struggled, his voice so weak that it was almost inaudible.
"Uncle Li, you have to hold on! We will make you better." Chen Fang comforted him softly. The earnest emotion in her eyes startled the old man.
Just as she was busy, there was a sound of hurried footsteps at the door. Lina came back panting, holding a few bunches of herbs in her hands, her face full of anxiety: "I found it, mint, white grass root, and some honeysuckle!"
"Great, let's start right away." Chen Fang reached out to take the herbs and quickly began to pound them.
Just a few minutes after finishing the work, several villagers came in from outside the door, looking dazed, obviously bringing patients. The middle-aged man who led them said in a hoarse voice: "Miss Fang, Aunt Wang at the west end of the village has also been infected, and she won't wake up!"
"Hurry, take me there." Chen Fang did not hesitate. She knew that time was precious and she could not delay any further.
Chen Fang and Lina immediately followed the middle-aged man and ran to the west of the village, bearing in mind their responsibility to treat the patients. On the way, the villagers could be heard discussing in low voices, with both whispers of worry and flames of hope.
"Ms. Fang, you must help us, everyone is waiting for you!" An old lady's voice came from the crowd, mixed with tears and expectation.
Arriving at Aunt Wang's house, what caught her eyes was a mess. Aunt Wang looked haggard and dazed, surrounded by anxious family members. Chen Fang didn't hesitate for a moment and immediately began to check the condition.
"Auntie Wang, cheer up! I will cure you." She whispered to comfort him, her eyes full of firm belief. Then, she and Lina quickly started working and began symptomatic treatment.
After several hours of intensive treatment, Aunt Wang finally regained consciousness and was able to hear her words. Chen Fang breathed a sigh of relief, exhausted, yet feeling a sense of fulfillment in her mission.
"Thank you, Miss Fang." Aunt Wang's voice was still weak, but her eyes showed gratitude.
"This is what we should do. You must take good care of yourself!" Chen Fang smiled, and the determination in her eyes returned.
