Berserk, Total War: Second Son of Nobles

Chapter 193 Prisoner

Chapter 193 Prisoner

"According to local intelligence personnel in Yoda, Yoda and its puppet states, the Principality of Morgar and the Principality of Voltolia, are waging war against Kusha. Yoda has invested a large number of troops on the border of Kusha. It is suspected that Commander Dougal, who was once in the Midland battlefield, was also sent to Kusha." One morning, John was eating breakfast while listening to the report of Spy Minister Wesker.

"Well, that is to say, now all their energy is focused on Kusha in the desert, and the offensive against Midlan has stopped?" John asked Wesker after swallowing the food in his mouth.

"According to the intelligence we know so far, this is indeed the case. However, it should be noted that there are still three Yoda Knights with a total strength of 5,000 people in Midland, including the Blue Whale Heavy Knights, the Ram Charge Knights, and the Purple Rhino Knights, as well as approximately 200,000 Yoda soldiers."

"That's half as many as when the war started last year." John felt relieved upon hearing this. It seemed that Yoda would not launch another large-scale attack on Midlan unless he resolved the Kusha issue.

"Wesker, based on previous wars between Yoda and Kusha, how long do you think it will take for Yoda to defeat Kusha?"

Wesker thought for a moment and then said:

"Sir, at present, Yoda's chances of defeating Kushan are very slim. Due to cultural differences, the Yoda Empire can only maintain its influence in the Kushan region through immigration and supporting puppets, which does not bring any benefits to Yoda except consuming resources to create a buffer zone. Although Kushan is currently a mess, its territory is as vast as Yoda and Mitlan, plus the desert environment. Unless Kushan and Yoda both cease fire, Yoda and Kushan will engage in a protracted war of attrition."

After discussing Kusha's affairs, John returned to his bedroom to work. Even though he had just celebrated his birthday yesterday, the documents from all over the country would not stop being delivered just because of your birthday. Even if he handed over some unimportant matters to the civil servants to handle, John still received piles of various documents.

Ordinary civil servants are not qualified to handle military and economic documents on their own initiative. These must first be reviewed by John before some minor matters can be handed over to civil servants for handling. However, due to the fact that the territory is located on the border, these documents account for almost 80% of all documents.

Looking at the table piled with documents, John sat in the chair and processed them as usual, while opposite him sat several White Wolf Knights to protect his safety.

"Knock! Knock! Knock!" Not long after John sat down, a knock on the door rang out in the room.

"Please come in!"

With John's permission, a soldier pushed open the door and walked in. He handed a letter to John with both hands and said:

"My Lord, an urgent matter from the French King's Office!"

"Why did the French King's Office write to me?"

With such doubts, John opened the envelope and carefully read the contents of the letter. After a while, John finished reading the letter, but at this time he sighed:

"The Fawang Hall is really looking for trouble."

The letter said that in the war between Yoda and Kushan, its vassal Principality of Morgar captured more than a dozen Kushan nobles. These prisoners of war will arrive at the north port of the territory today. The French King's Office asked John to imprison these prisoners of war and torture them severely.

To be honest, John did not have much hostility towards the Kushans. In his opinion, there were good people and bad people everywhere in the world. The war between the Kushans and the countries of the Dharma Hall was essentially a war of religious beliefs. Coupled with hundreds of years of bloody conflicts, it led to the current situation. Sometimes John even felt that compared to the Kushans, the Yudas were even more beasts among beasts, committing all kinds of evil including burning, killing, looting and so on.

"The ship will arrive today, right? Send the messenger to inform the officials in North Port to transport the prisoners to Franche-Comté. We can then throw them into a prison or make them work on farms and mines." John gave orders to the soldiers. Instead of abusing the Kushans, John wanted to know what benefits they could bring to him.

On the distant northern sea, a fleet was sailing towards the North Port. Several warships on the outermost periphery protected a transport ship in the center. Flags with the emblems of Morgar and the French King's Hall fluttered in the wind driven by the sea breeze.

However, just after the fleet arrived in the South Grant Waters, five warships with white flags and black eagles rushed towards them from all directions.

After a certain distance, the ships of both sides stopped at the same time. After exchanging flag signals, the patrol ship from Beigang understood their purpose.

"Tell them that only the transport ships of the French King's Office are allowed to enter. All other ships must leave this sea area." The captain in charge of this maritime patrol team said to his subordinates after learning their purpose. What a joke, they are not escorting ships from John's territory, how could they allow a foreign fleet to cruise freely in the waters under their jurisdiction.

After the information was conveyed to the other party through flag signals, the other party did not respond for a long time as if they were thinking. When the captain could not wait and wanted to call for support, the other party's warships tactfully evacuated on their own, leaving only the transport ship of the French King's Hall.

So the patrol boats immediately surrounded the transport ship, and under the guidance of the patrol boats, the transport ship slowly sailed into Beigang.

"Crash! Crash!"

Along with the sound of iron chains and the soldiers' curses, a row of people wearing shackles like prisoners walked down from the ship. Even though some of them were so dishevelled that their appearance could not be seen clearly, the turbans on their heads proved that these prisoners were all from Kusha.

As the last Kusha prisoner got off the ship, the soldiers stationed at the port immediately stepped forward to escort the prisoners and put them into the prison van. Looking at these prisoners, the officer in charge of the handover asked a soldier from the French King's Hall in confusion:

"Wasn't it said that there were only a dozen Kusha nobles? Why are there dozens of prisoners now?"

"Those are servants and family members of the nobles." The soldier of the French King's Hall responded. Upon learning the news, the officer had no choice but to order his men to stuff the prisoners into ten prison carts.

Accompanied by billowing smoke and dust, the convoy immediately headed south to its final destination, Franche-Comté.

In a prison in Franche-Comté, the warden looked at the letter from John and handed it to his deputy. After reading the letter, the deputy asked the warden:

"My Lord, what are you going to do with these Kusha prisoners?"

"Deal with it however you want." The warden said to himself. In his opinion, no matter whether they were Yoda or Kushan people, they were all prisoners in his place.

"But these prisoners are Kushans. Would there be anything wrong if we deal with them as usual?" Seeing that the warden still had an indifferent attitude, the deputy advised.

"Then let me ask you, has Lord John asked us to do anything special to them?" the warden asked, and then he said again:

"In the letter, Lord John told us to follow the rules, right? Since we have to follow the so-called rules, then everything should be done as usual."

"Then what standards are used to deal with these prisoners?" the deputy asked.

"What else can we do? Didn't the letter say that they were nobles from Kushan? We should deal with the nobles of Kushan the same way we dealt with the nobles of Yoda before."
