Chapter 30, Part 1: Big and Small Performances
Chapter 30, Part 1: Big and Small Performances
"Your description doesn't sound like your backpack being opened, it sounds more like a hyena tearing your guts out." Yan Xun followed behind Su Yumin, preparing to leave the bedroom with him.
Su Yumin's hand was still on the doorknob. After hearing Yan Xun's words, he suddenly turned around with some interest, "It does look a bit like it."
He gestured as if reaching out, "The feeling of opening and pulling out the space backpack should be similar to what you're describing."
He wore that fake smile again, then looked Yan Xun up and down, as if observing whether he had frightened him.
"Crazy," Yan Xun thought to himself, and he reached out and patted Su Yumin's shoulder. "If you're not going to leave, then get out of the way."
Su Yumin, perhaps suddenly seized by a dramatic impulse, put on a wronged expression upon hearing Yan Xun's words, saying, "So fierce."
"I see that you treat your roommate quite well."
The bedroom door was open, and the three people in the living room could hear what they were saying.
Gui Yuchong's gaze never left the closed door. When Su Yumin opened the door, he wanted to go closer... but when he heard what Su Yumin said, he immediately looked at a loss.
It was as if he hadn't heard their conversation in the bedroom.
Gui Yuchong acted, Su Yumin acted, and Yan Xun had no choice but to act as well.
—As long as they don't actively reveal the truth, Gui Yuchong will pretend they don't know, and Yan Xun and Su Yumin will also pretend that Gui Yuchong doesn't know they already know the truth.
“He can’t compare to you.” Yan Xun looked Su Yumin up and down. “You’re thick-skinned and tough…”
He then looked at Gui Yuchong, who was standing in the living room staring at him.
The other person still looked that innocent and beautiful, as if they couldn't understand what they were saying at all.
Unfortunately, the other person's height made it impossible to play the role of a petite and dependent woman, so Yan Xun could only swallow the words she was about to say and change her words, "Gui Yuchong looks like he's in poor health, and his abilities are mediocre. He can't lift a finger, he's timid and afraid of trouble..."
He said so much, but not a single kind word came out. It didn't seem like he was criticizing Su Yumin, but rather like he was using Su Yumin as a pretext to also berate Gui Yuchong.
Gui Yuchong, whether he genuinely didn't understand or simply didn't care, remained in that pitiful state. He showed no anger at Yan Xun's words, adopting a submissive and humble demeanor, ready to be beaten or scolded at will.
This made Shen Rui, who was standing to the side, immediately imagine what a domestic drama was like—
It seems that Yan Xun has become a landlord, Su Yumin has become a vicious first wife, and Gui Yuchong has become a concubine brought in through a side door. She originally wanted to gain favor with her beauty, but she didn't expect that the master didn't love either of them and only wanted the two of them to bite each other.
But because the association was too bizarre, Shen Rui could only shake his head, thinking that he was just extremely hungry and had gone crazy.
"...But fortunately, Gui Yuchong is obedient." Yan Xun then took back his words, "Of course, I treat him even better."
Su Yumin knew that Yan Xun was using this as an excuse to make a fuss, so he pretended to suddenly realize something and said, "So you like obedient people."
"Then you should have said so earlier."
"I promise I'll be obedient."
Li Wu frowned as he watched the three of them go crazy together. He felt that Yan Xun and Su Yumin's entry was not so much about exchanging information, but rather that Yan Xun had poisoned Su Yumin, turning her into a fool. Otherwise, how could she say such outrageous things?
He initially wanted to hold back, but seeing Su Yumin getting increasingly out of line, he finally said, "What's in the bedroom?"
Shen Rui didn't understand what he meant, and was immediately shocked when she heard it, "There's a monster in the bedroom?"
Su Yumin looked at Li Wu with a somewhat mocking expression.
"If there's nothing there, why were you normal before going in, but started talking nonsense after coming out?" This was probably the longest Li Wu had ever spoken. He looked at the group, "Time is running out..."
He originally thought that since the search of this place had been completed, they might as well go back.
But then he remembered that the doors to rooms 404 and 908 were damaged... Besides, if he went back, Yan Xun and Gui Yuchong would have to stay together, so he swallowed his words and didn't say anything more.
“Time is indeed running out,” Yan Xun continued, picking up where Li Wu left off. “When we go to get the food tomorrow morning, find someone to transfer the administrator away…”
There aren't many things in the management office; you can see them all at a glance. The only place that might hold a secret is probably the room behind the small door leading to the manager.
The people in the room probably understood this principle, so they didn't object.
Only Shen Rui glanced at the others and then asked, "Who will distract that old man...?"
He originally wanted to suggest that Gui Yuchong go—in his opinion, Gui Yuchong looked safe and harmless, and his speech was somewhat slow. He might not be good at finding clues, but he could pretend to encounter a fake person and stall the old man and the security guard.
When Yan Xun saw Shen Rui's gaze fall on Gui Yuchong, he knew something was wrong.
If Gui Yuchong were to actually do the work, they would all be wiped out.
So before Shen Rui could even speak, Yan Xun had already chosen someone, "How about you go?"
Yan Xun looked at Shen Rui and said, "You're fast and quick-witted." He then casually added some compliments, praising Shen Rui as a brave and resourceful teammate. "Li Wu and I will go find the information."
"You? No way."
Yan Xun originally thought that Shen Rui would refuse, but unexpectedly it was Su Yumin who spoke up.
He made no attempt to hide his suspicion. "I'm worried that if you two team up... you'll deliberately withhold information." He pointed to himself. "You didn't treat me as a teammate either, did you?"
"Shen Rui is my roommate, after all. He's risking his life, so why can't I go to the management office to look for clues?"
Su Yumin's words made it sound like he and Shen Rui were some kind of best buddies, but in reality, if something really happened, he would be the first one to use Shen Rui as a human cushion and throw him aside.
Because of Task 1, Shen Rui still had a lot of faith in Yan Xun's...character.
After weighing the risks of luring away the administrator versus sneaking into the old man's room to look for clues, he decided it would be better to be the "rabbit" that lured the hunter away.
In this way, Gui Yuchong was completely out of a job.
Shen Rui secretly sized up the other person, and inwardly sighed that his elder brother (whom he had just recognized) was still far-sighted—this person would probably only cause trouble if he went there, so it would be better for him to stay in his room and not go anywhere.
Gui Yuchong listened to the arrangements made by the group, and as if he were slow to react, he finally realized that he had not been assigned any tasks.
Then he pointed to himself and asked, "What about me?"
“You…” Yan Xun glanced at Gui Yuchong, “You just stay here.”
"If you're tired, you can lie down."
—In this way, it coincides with the original plot.
In the original work, the main characters were worried that Gui Yuchong would get hurt, so they neither let him look for clues nor let him be used as bait.
Although their actual situation differs greatly from the original work, the result is quite similar.
Yan Xun muttered to himself, "Is this some kind of uncontrollable force of the plot?!"
